I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about this new BBQ joint in Kapitolyo so imagine my excitement when we finally went there the other day for dinner. They have an extensive menu but of course the main star was the smoked meats that’s available in three types of sauce base – Apple (Sweet), East Capitol (Spicy) and Hazelnut (nutty).
Their PIT Platter is highly recommended when dining with a large group, you get four of their smoked specialties. We got the brisket, smoked bacon, ribs and chicken along with some sides to go with it. Both the kimchi rice with sous vide egg and truffle fries were quite good.
A personal favorite from the appetizers we tried, their Pulled Pork Roll with Kesong Puti is a must-try! The pieces of pulled pork is quite spicy, tossed in gochujang paste, yes that spicy Korean condiment! It gives just a little bit of hit that’s goes well with the creamy kesong puti dip.
Another good for sharing appetizer dish, their Pit Nachos is topped with smoked pulled pork and kesong puti sauce and then torched. It’s a hot mess but a fun dish to eat. I wiped all the pulled pork bits that went so well with the milder cheese sauce base.
And the main events – their smoked meats! We tried all of them because again, why not right?
First thing we tried was the Pork Ribs with the East Capitol (spicy) BBQ glaze. The meat was tender and really fall off the bone and the flavor was just lovely, just a bit of spice that further titillates the taste buds and leaves you wanting for more. I just wish there’s a bit more fat on this, while some of the pieces were juicy, moist, and lovely, the lean parts tend to dry up. I’m sure they’ll be able to work on this but the flavor of the meat is spot on.
Their Smoked Corriander Chicken turned out to be my favorite of the smoked meats that we tried. The meat was brined for 24 hours and then smoked for another 4 hours. It’s brushed with a chili garlic glaze and it’s just perfect. The meat remained moist and was just really flavorful. the sauces seemed permeated through each strand of the meat, it was lovely.
Their Angus Brisket is another treat, smoked for 15 hours and is just fantastic. We picked the hazelnut (nutty) BBQ glaze for this one and it did not disappoint. My favorite was the charred fatty bits that just melts in your mouth! Happiness!
A big YES for these Smoked Bacon Strips! A lovely honey glaze gives it a bit of sweetness and the flavor was spot on! This goes perfect with their kimchi rice with sous vide egg! I can eat this all day!
The food at Pitmaster’s Smokehouse BBQ in Kapitolyo is good! The smoked meats were fantastic! Yes there’s definitely a room for improvement for some of the items but their core product – the smoked meats were good! It’s a fairly new restaurant and they serve some badass BBQ. Will definitely go back for more!
